Arcadis, the leading global Design and Consultancy organisation for natural and built assets, has supported Qube on the development and delivery of a sustainability strategy for the Moorebank Logistics Park (MLP), which has been awarded an “Excellent” Design Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) rating from the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA).

The IS Rating Scheme is Australia and New Zealand’s only comprehensive rating system for evaluating sustainability across infrastructure programs, projects, networks and assets. The tool evaluates the sustainability performance of the quadruple-bottom-line (Governance, Economic, Environmental and Social) of infrastructure development.

The project has achieved outstanding sustainability and innovation outcomes, which have been recognised through this achievement Moorebank Logistics Park is one of only a select group of privately developed projects to achieve this rating.

Arcadis have supported Qube and Tactical Group throughout the delivery of the providing a range of engineering and environmental services. In particular Arcadis developed a sustainability strategy for the project which aimed to identify cost effective solutions to reduce carbon and enhancing sustainable outcomes. Arcadis have worked closely with Qube and the team to implement the initiatives identified within the strategy and secure an Excellent IS Rating.

The project has also been an exciting opportunity for Qube, Arcadis and the team to work collaboratively with the Clean Energy Finance Corporation and ISCA.

Michael Yiend, Director of Property - Qube: “We are extremely proud to have achieved this rating on an infrastructure project of the scale and complexity of the Moorebank Logistics Park. It is recognition for the hard work and expertise of a large number of people who shared a vision to deliver something special.  It demonstrates the innovations available to deliver major industrial development in a more efficient and environmentally sustainable way”

Claire Hodgson, Principal Environmental Consultant – Arcadis AusPac:  “This is an incredible achievement and is a testament to the commitment of the team and Qube. The sustainability outcomes that have been achieved will set a new benchmark standard for Australia.

Our priority is to deliver value for our clients and help them leverage innovative technologies to improve the quality of life for everyone. This project is a testament to this.”

The project design achieved a world first in innovative technology, due to its high degree of automation. This includes automated gantry cranes, straddle carriers, sortation systems and terminal operating systems. Automation reduces energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, enhances safety, minimizes environmental impacts, improving productivity and economic output. An Australian first innovative process was awarded for the project’s approach to managing urban heat island effects, with measures implemented to achieve a 4ºC decrease in temperature on the project compared to neighbouring industrial developments.
