UNSW to open new campus in Canberra’s city centre

11 March 2020

Canberra’s higher education sector is set to expand with the arrival of a new UNSW campus, in the city centre.

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) will establish a new campus in Canberra city that will aim to attract up to 6,000 students and specialise in research, education and innovation.

Some 2000 jobs are expected to be created during the construction period.

UNSW Canberra will produce a master plan for the new campus in consultation with the community and stakeholders.

A key focus will be on providing more opportunities to collaborate and grow the defence and security industries.

The university plans to establish education and research facilities, collaborative industry activities, and facilities to support the campus population, such as improved parking, student accommodation, student services and retail.

The new campus will also help revitalise and transform the eastern side of the city for the community to enjoy.

The plans for a major new UNSW campus in Canberra city were announced in the ACT Government’s Infrastructure Plan, https://apps.treasury.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/1432449/act-infrastructure-plan.pdf.
