M4-M5 WestConnex link gets approved
04 May 2018
NSW Government:
Joining the
M4 tunnel at Haberfield with the
M5 at St Peters will create a non-stop underground western bypass of
Sydney’s CBD, slashing travel times and delivering open space for
local communities.
The
NSW Government has approved the final stage of
WestConnex, linking
the
M4 and M5 motorways.
The twin
tunnels about 7.5 kilometres long will be able to accommodate
up to four lanes of traffic in each direction.
The M4-M5 Link project will also transform the disused Rozelle Rail
Yards into a 10-hectare park with green space, footpaths and cycle ways.
A bridge will link the open space at Rozelle to the foreshore parks
adjacent to Rozelle Bay at Annandale.
Minister for Planning and Housing Anthony Roberts said the link will
take thousands of trucks off Parramatta Road and save motorists hours of
travel time each week.
“The M4-M5 link is part of a comprehensive range of road and public
transport projects that are all connected and will make Sydney a much
better place to live,” Mr Roberts said.
