Plans move forward for proposed M5 Motorway improvements

31 July 2020

Plans are progressing for M5 Motorway improvements between Moorebank Avenue and the Hume Highway, with the release of the consultation report and award of contract for the concept design and review of environmental factors.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the upgrade to the M5 Motorway westbound in this area will help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow on the surrounding road network.

“After considering the feedback, Transport for NSW will proceed with a shared westbound exit for Hume Highway and Moorebank Avenue,” the spokesperson said.

“The project will also have a new two lane bridge across the Georges River, Powerhouse Road, railway lines and Lakewood Crescent to provide easier access to the Hume Highway exit.

“By addressing this key pinch point, westbound motorists would experience smoother and safer journeys on this section of the M5 Motorway and Moorebank Avenue.

“With the contract for the concept design and review of environmental factors now awarded, design work will get under way from this month.”

The community is invited to view the community consultation report and video animation on the website at nswroads.work/m5motorwaywestbound.

Transport for NSW will continue to provide the community with updates as the project progresses.
